“Fire It Up” with Maureen Joyce

Come be intrigued by the fire as ceramic artist Maureen Joyce, takes you deeper into the various firing techniques of Raku. This class will have several demonstrations and multiple firings per student. Students will glaze pre-made bisqueware and experiment with glazes in the multiple firings. Unlike other processes in ceramics, the pieces are removed from the kiln while still glowing hot. Students will learn both the traditional and contemporary techniques that make this kind of firing so exciting! You’ll be able to take home your fired work the day of the workshop. Weather permitting.  Due to working with fire, anyone under 18 must have adult supervision. Tea service from the Teafinery and complimentary dessert provided by Renee Napoli with ticket purchase.  No alcohol permitted at this class due to working with fire.  Only 10 seats in this class, so don’t miss out!

**Brain Vessel and/or the instructing artist reserves the right to cancel the class if the minimum student requirement is not met by two days before the class date.  Refund or rain check for next class will be given.**

About Maureen:

Maureen Joyce is a member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsman and lives in Carlisle, PA.  She has attended Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh among others and most currently studies at Harrisburg Area Community College.  She teaches a variety of ceramic workshops at Carlisle Arts Learning Center and directs SOS Meet and Make at CALC and Arts Live program at the Red Tomato Farm in Newville, PA .
